SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
Collett School seeks to provide a
quality and equitable educational program for all
students. Some of the special programs and services
available, based on program criteria, include:
INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM AND
LEADERSHIP
A leadership team of grade level
representatives has been organized at Collett
School
to assist teachers in planning a variety of in-service
sessions and developing and implementing curriculum
activities. Instructional leadership is provided
also by the Alvord Educational Services Division
through numerous training sessions.
On-site program
quality reviews are conducted at least once
every three years. The Program Quality
Review provides an opportunity for each staff
member to address the priority improvement efforts
of
our
school and to engage in coordinated planning
and program improvement.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Collett Elementary School received
a total of $592,553 in special funds forsupplementary
educational programs. The following special programs
are offered at the school:
• Title I
• School Improvement Program (SIP)
• Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)
• Economic Impact Aid/Limited English Proficient
The school-wide Title I program assists students
who are having problems in reading or mathematics.
Most of this assistance comes through the Title
I computer lab with computer-assisted instruction.
The School Improvement Program (SIP) supplements
instructional materials in the library and in the
classrooms. The Gifted and Talented (GATE) program
budget provides educational enhancement materials
and programs.
Accelerated classes are offered in the core subjects
for high achievers. GATE activities and projects
are ongoing throughout the year on a pullout basis
during the school day and as extracurricular activities.
Economic Impact Aid/Limited English Proficient
provides
educational assistance to students with limited
English proficiency. There are 288 students currently
identified as English Language Learners. The English
as a Second Language Program is to enable the students
to successfully learn through English language
instruction.
Collett has an upper grade ELD cluster class to
assist these students. Collett’s Elementary
School’s Special
Education program provides assessment, specialized
instruction, curricular interventions and regular
education. In the Resource and Communication Programs,
children with exceptional needs are formally
and
informally assessed to determine needs and progress.
Assessments are also completed for children who
have been referred by the Student Assistance Team
for determination for presence of exceptional
needs
and requirement of special education services.
The district Preschool Speech Services are located
on
the Collett campus and serve Collett students.
PREPARATION FOR THE WORKPLACE
The curriculum and programs support
the preparation of students to enter the workforce.
Beginning in elementary school, students are exposed
to career awareness. In the middle schools, students
participate in the Youth Education Motivation Program
(YEMP) which strives to motivate students to stay
in school and to inform them of career/work options.
At the high schools, students have multiple opportunities
to participate in career day activities, paid and
