WELCOME TO COLLETT

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Collett Elementary School. We are proud of our school and its educational program. We look forward to working with you and community members in educating your children, our most valuable and cherished asset.

The goal we all share is that our children receive an education which prepares them for their future education and career, and prepares them to be productive citizens. We have high expectations for the students at Collett and believe they will find success in their future.

We believe that our students will one day go to college. Each classroom has adopted a different University and proudly displays that University’s banner outside the classroom. Students learn about a different University each year, and exciting activities and rallies are held throughout the year.

Collett is an attractive school with a new 16 classroom building and Library, which were completed in 08-09. Staff and students have been enjoying the new buildings and the staff have been working to learn and maximize the exciting technological resources in these new structures.

We also have a new calendar in 09-10, with an earlier start date and end date. Make sure you are aware of the changes to the calendar and plan accordingly.

As most are well aware, California’s budget challenges are having a big impact on education. In Alvord, class sizes for K-3 have been increased from 20:1 to 24:1. We will have fewer teachers this year and no Assistant Principal. However, our commitment to the students at Collett remains steadfast! We will do everything we can to help them reach their potential, go to college, and achieve their dreams.

With the reduction in staff, your involvement is ever more important. Get to know your child’s teacher, become involved in PTA, School Site Council, ELAC, and other parent activities/meetings throughout the year. Strive to make sure your child comes to school each day prepared, on time, and well nourished.

Sincerely,

Will Mynster
Principal, Collett
